The gap

Most XJ13 recreations are approximations of the original.

Malcolm Sayer's proportions, the hand-formed aluminium body, the monocoque with suspension points exactly as the original — few recreations survive the compromises of production. The Toolroom Copy returns to the car as it first left the Competition Department, not the rebuilt 1972/73 version.

The Toolroom Copy

Built the way the Competition Department intended it to be.

01

Authenticity

Malcolm Sayer's 1966 design, faithfully reproduced — from the all-aluminium hand-formed body to the authentic replica monocoque, as it first left the Competition Department.

02

Engineering

Proven monocoque chassis, a choice of five V12 power units, period-correct running gear and drivetrain — engineered and road-proven in the UK.

03

Provenance

A 2016 International Historic Motoring Awards finalist, internationally acknowledged as the most authentic re-creation of this iconic car ever produced.

Heritage

The legend that never raced.

Conceived in 1965 for the Ford-versus-Ferrari wars at Le Mans, the Jaguar XJ13 was Malcolm Sayer's last design for Jaguar — built around a mid-mounted 5.0-litre V12, with an all-aluminium monocoque and a body shaped for the Mulsanne Straight. Only one was ever made.

It never raced. In 1971, during filming at MIRA, the original was crashed and was subsequently rebuilt in 1972/73 — by which time it differed from Sayer's original car in many respects.

Building The Legend's Toolroom Copy returns to the car as it first left the Competition Department. The company's first completed XJ13 was a finalist in the 2016 International Historic Motoring Awards — a re-creation internationally acknowledged as the most authentic and accurate of this iconic car ever produced.
